Escape to Andalucia

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

When booking a holiday to Malaga I struggled to shake images of booze addled Brits staggering half naked from bar to beach leaving behind a trail of cigarette butts and towels with union Jacks on them.  All it took to convince me that Malaga had shaken off this awful stigma was the taxi ride from the airport. I was delighted by the combination of a friendly taxi driver and endless mountains and valleys which punctuated my journey, reassuring me that this place was a far cry from the Costa Del Sol of the 90’s.
Our accommodation was absolutely beautiful. We were greeted by welcoming staff and ushered into spacious, contemporary bedrooms which were decadently furnished. Thoroughly exhausted from my travels I took a quick supper whilst lounging on our outside terrace and bid the other guests good night.

The quality of the riding the following morning (and afternoon, and every other day, come to think about it) was absolutely uncompromised. I was able to greatly improve my riding technique during our lessons and then spend the afternoon whiling away the hours enjoying relaxing treks through mountains, valleys and alongside awe inspiring lakes. By the end of the week I was even ready to engage in one of the adrenaline inspired canters through the countryside that I had previously only managed to spectate, with a mixture of jealousy and apprehension.

By the end of the week I felt that I was just about settled in to Malaga life and I was in no way ready to leave, so I decided to extend my stay by an extra night. This proved not to be enough, so to my accountants dismay I booked myself in for another week near enough the moment I stepped through the threshold of my home back in the UK.

Riding in Southern Spain

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

As you are all aware the weather in the UK over the past month has gone from bad to worse to impossible. It seems that many parts of the UK have ground to a stand-still. Hundreds of schools have had to close, driving conditions have been hazardous to say the least, and rail and air passengers were delayed on many flights leaving badly affected areas. For the first time our riding centre in Cheshire had to cancel all rides on the 5th December as the melting snow and freezing rain had transformed the yard and paths into an ice rink. The bad news is The Met Office has issued further heavy snow warnings for Yorkshire and Humber, east Midlands, east and north-east England, London and south-east England.

As Lou and I were left in the -6 conditions here in the office in Cheshire, Sarah, our managing director headed off to what we all thought was a rainy Southern Spain. Little did we know (including her) that there was a whopping 33 degree difference in temperature and it was a blazing 27 degrees celcius! Hard to comprehend when only 2 1/2 hours earlier she had left an artic Liverpool John Lennon airport on a Ryan Air flight heading for Malaga.

Hardly laughing when we heard this the next day we were soon cheered up when Sarah told us she was in a bit of a ‘sticky’ situation as she had packed for rain – 2 pairs of wooly boots and several pairs of jeans and thick jumpers!

Thanks to the un-announced spectacular weather Sarah enjoyed 5 days of glorious sunshine on the coast of Marbella, riding along the sandy beaches of Southern Spain and sampling the wonderful gastronomy and wine that the Spanish are so famous for.

If you are interested in any of our Spanish riding breaks please contact Sarah, Lou or myself Lindsey in the Equestrian Escapes office on 01829 781 123.

This fabulous horse riding holiday opportunity for beginners and intermediate riders allows you to see Spain in all its splendour, whilst taking in the charm of the Alpujarra Mountains.

The itinerary is set so that beginners can learn as much as possible with their horses whilst also enjoying the breath-taking scenery, so that when they return home the experience is far from lost on them!

You will be staying in the quaint village of Bubion where you will be most comfortable in the little quiet restaurants and bars; perfect to sit back and just relax.

Take A Break!

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

It is a common fact that stress affects your health, to the extent in some cases that the only cure is a new lifestyle, filled with peace and tranquillity.  Do you find yourself stressed on a regular basis?  Are you temperamental, and grouchy?  Do you need a lift in your life, or a change?  Maybe you should consider a break away from the office, Peru perhaps?  Take the family with you, and go to Wales; the kids would love it!  Or maybe you need some time alone?  Spain?  Perhaps somewhere a little closer to home?  How about the beautiful Brecon Beacons?!

Take a break and treat yourself now and again.  Contact Equestrian Escapes now for information on a selection of wonderful holiday breaks, especially designed to satisfy your every need.

Words From Eduardo

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Dear Equestrian Escapes,

I recently travelled to Slovenia and came across some horses that reminded me of a horse-riding holiday that I booked through you.  I went alone, to Barcelona and had the most wonderful time.  I remember especially that the horses were so healthy and well looked after, and Barcelona itself was so pretty.  I am currently travelling around Europe on business, but when I return I think I may just ring you to book a well-deserved horse-riding breakItaly, perhaps this time!  Or perhaps I should try something entirely different?  Maybe the side-saddle?…….

I look forward to speaking to you on my return,

Many thanks,

Eduardo (Horse Expert)

Epona Trail and Train Riding Holiday Spain

The service was excellent as all questions were answered promptly and in detail. The rooms were also excellent and were comfortable, homely, very clean. Excellent lessons gave me lots of help with riding skills and the horses provided for lessons and trail rides were fantastic. Overall Experience – I loved my week riding in Spain it was a great combination of lessons and trail rides and also got to experience a little of the culture through flamenco show and a visit to the Jerez royal riding school. Local cuisine was provided for meals and the hosts were lovely. Horses were gorgeous and lovely to ride. Would love to go back again. I will definitely reccomend this to my friends. Epona was an amazing experience my 2 horses were beautiful and taught me a lot, Fernando made sure everyone was happy and kept us all amused with his jokes. The chance to learn through lessons and trail ride was a great combination. I would definitely go back. Thanks for a great week.

A sunny day for learning

A happy customer taking instruction from a trainer

Tarporley Cheshire

The room and service were excellent and the beds, very comfortable. We were impressed with the quality of the private lessons, the hacks were good fun and useful for putting the techniques that we learned into practise. We really enjoyed our experience, can think of nothing that would have improved it. Brilliant weekend. By far the best horse-riding experience I’ve had, the teachers were patient and knowledgeable and I felt I learned a lot. The hacks were great fun and were a good opportunity to put the techniques we learned into practise, as well as a brilliant way to see the countryside.

Beginners Beach Ride in Andalucia

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

This Weekend Beach Riding Holiday on the stunning beaches of southern Spain is one not to be missed. A chance to see first hand the beauty of La coasta de la Luz and soak up the culture of the near by towns. This area is close to Tarifa and you will arrive after a car journey or transfer from either Gibraltar or Malaga airport.

On your first of five days in this (totally flexible) £495 holiday your will arrive at your four star hotel from the airport and be introduced to your new steed. This holiday caters for all ages and abilities which makes it perfect for families and groups of friends. Fear not if your loved one is more advanced than you, or the other way round! There are horses suitable for all.

La Costa de la Luz means The Coast of Light, a reference to the amazing way the suns rays play with the sand to produce a golden colour which lines the shores. When I was sat on my horse on this very same stretch of coast I couldn’t help but let it remind me of the quality of Equestrian Escapes’ Horse Riding Holidays. They never cease to impress me, time and time again.

Throughout day two, three and four I reccomend you try to have at least 6 hours of riding. This will give you the optimum amount of riding both on the fabulous beaches and in the national park. It will also allow you time to check out the local towns, go shopping in the Zoco (market) and purchase some souvenirs. The range of optional activities during this holiday include:

  • Golf
  • Water Sports
  • A Trip to Tangiers to visit Morocco and a traditional Zoco
  • Visit the Bull Farm (depending on season)
  • Baelo Claudia Roman ruins guided tour
Costa de la Luz

The Coast of Light

Sad as it may be, day five is the day you depart. Check into the airport and hop on your plane home. Or if you’d rather skip the planes and have no check in then check out the open planes of Cheshire in another ideal short break for you and your family.
