Equestrian update

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Well 2012 has been very eventful and extremely busy for us in the Equestrian Escapes office so far! Andalucía Escapes is almost ready to go live; Lou, Sarah and our top website design team have been working round the clock during the Christmas and New Year period in order to get it up and running for January ’12. Since my return form a very lovely 3 week holiday in Thailand we have had two articles published (one in the travel supplement of the Telegraph and the other in the British Horse Society Magazine) and our new brochure has been printed (yey), resulting in a huge number of enquiries for UK and non UK destinations alike – We love being kept busy though so keep them coming!
As our introductory offer in Cheshire has proved so popular we are extending the finish date to the 30th April ’12. We also have two very romantic Valentines offers in Wiltshire and Essex running throughout February.
Finally I think I should tell you all that during the Boxing day hunt with the Cheshire’s Sarah took a tumble from baby Ferdie (the day before she was due to go on a family skiing holiday to Canada) both are fine but Sarah dislocated her hip causing her, in her own words, “as much pain as child birth”..ouch! After being airlifted to Wythenshawe hospital her hip was ‘popped’ back into its socket, thankfully with no complications. See action shot below..

Needless to say Sarah did fly to Canada the following day and although not much skiing took place she did meet some gorgeous Huskies..

How cute!

Horse Riding Vacation in North Devon

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

On Sunday the 6th March I packed up the car and set out on my 500 mile round trip to explore North Devon’s beach riding opportunities. This is one of the areas that we have been keen to add to Equestrian Escapes for a while and what better time to bite the bullet than a sunny Sunday in early March. A lot of people may think that adding a package to the website is simple but think again – all of the packages that we offer have been tried and tested by us. We have ridden with all the instructors, stayed in the B&B’s and hotels and thoroughly explored the surrounding areas to make sure that we are as knowledgably as possible on all of our destinations.

Arriving 5 hours later I headed straight to the stables. Working my way down narrow sea side roads I found Teresa’s yard and some of the loveliest horses I have ever met. The majority being home breads combining of a mix of colourds and greys suitable for all age, ability and size. Looking around from the stables there are magnificent views of the 4 mile beach below and the hills of the National Trust above. We set on our way to the beach, taking a leisurely walk down through the village being greeted with a wave and a smile from the locals along the way. Once on the beach we trotted, cantered and galloped the length of this spectacular white sandy beach, splashing through the throthy water, then heading back along the paths of the Tarka Trail and through the sand dunes. After 2 hours in the saddle it was time to head to the B&B, quaint and family run, centrally located for the stables and village it was the perfect place to retire for the evening.

The next day after a hearty breakfast in the B&B it was time to look for more accommodation options in the area, not a hard challenge in such a beautiful sea side location. Several B&B’s, a spa hotel on the beach front and a modern village hotel later it was mission complete! Sat outside The Red Barn café in the village looking out onto miles of golden sand and a bright blue cloudless sky, enjoying a Devonshire cream tea the thought of driving home to Cheshire wasn’t all that appealing!

Once torn away from Devon and back in the office on Tuesday the itinerary was written by 4pm, it was live on the site by Wednesday and we took our first booking by Friday. A lot of hard work paid off! For your chance to experience this fantastic beach riding on the beaches of North Devon follow this link http://www.equestrian-escapes.com/ Alternatively call Sarah, Lindsey or Lou in the office on 01829 781123 and we will be delighted to tell you more about our newest package.

Horse Riding Experiences Of 2010

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

2010 is drawing to an end but what a year it’s been! As everyone is rushing around adding those finishing touches to the Christmas preparations, buying and wrapping those last few presents and fighting their way through the crowds at the supermarket for the big food shop I thought what perfect time to reflect on what has been a fantastic year! Find the time to take a few moments out of your busy day to read what lovely things our customers had to say about us and their 2010 holidays.

In February Sandra enjoyed a holiday in Cheshire at our Country House Hotel – “Brilliant weekend. By far the best horse-riding experience I’ve had, the teachers were patient and knowledgeable and I felt I learned a lot. The hacks were great fun and were a good opportunity to put the techniques we learned into practise, as well as a brilliant way to see the countryside. We really enjoyed our experience, can think of nothing that would have improved it.”

In March Sam and Seb travelled to Tarifa – “We had a five night break in Tarifa at the end of March, the whole experience was fantastic, the instructors were so friendly and really wanted us to learn so I would recommend it to anyone who would like to try something different. The whole thing had a great laid back vibe and you could tell that the horses were well looked after and loved it.”

In May David and Kathryn stayed in Jerez for the annual Feria – “This was our first time with Equestrian Escapes, but it will not be our last! All arrangements were efficiently made and everything worked like clockwork. The structure of the week was expertly put together – we would never have been able to do this ourselves. The accommodation chosen for us was first class and well positioned in the city centre, within walking distance of most of the attractions, and the hotel staff  were so helpful, kind and courteous. The riding with Alphonso was an unbelievable experience, exciting, safe and pleasurable – not to be missed! It goes down as the best holiday ever!”

In June Gerogina spent 2 nights with us on the Adult Intensive riding course in Cheshire – “I just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for a lovely riding break last week.  I thoroughly enjoyed the riding in Cheshire, Sandra and the staff were very welcoming.  Your expertise was much appreciated when planning my schedule, I was really happy with the lunge and flat lessons and the number of rides out that I did – it all worked out perfectly.  Except of course for the fact that after 12 years of no riding my body was physically battered afterwards!  Thank goodness Chris found a seat-saver for me before my 3 hour ride! Thank you again, I would thoroughly recommend Equestrian Escapes and hope to be back sometime with my sister in tow.”

In July Mrs Smillie travelled to Portugal - “Great! The setting was beautiful and placed on the Obidos lagoon. The service was easy and hassle free which made the whole trip run so smoothly. The eco-camp that I stayed at was really different but I enjoyed it so much. The tipi was lovely, the bed was very comfy and I slept like a baby every night! The quality of the riding was excellent and the beach ride was exceptional. I could not believe my eyes when i got there. Our horses were absolutely gorgeous and so incredibly soft natured. In all of my riding experience, I never have come across such fantasticly well natured animals. They were a total delight. My overall experience was great, I thoroughly enjoyed my four day stay and would have liked to stay for much longer! I plan on recommending this holiday to both my family and friends!”

In September Jessica and James went to East Devon - “Having recently enjoyed an Equestrian Escapes holiday to Devon I thought I would write and tell you about it. The tuition at the riding stables is second to none and the hacks over Woodbury Common are a slice of heaven.”

In November Jean-Pierre and Elizabeth travelled to Berkshire - “Hello!
Our family recently booked a short break with you and stayed at Maggie’s in Berkshire. We had an unbelievably fabulous time. The accommodations were perfect and it was wonderful to wake up to the sound of hoof-steps in front of our cottage and open the shutters to friendly equine faces across the yard. Maggie was amazing — she offered to watch our 3 year old daughter, Axelle, while my husband and I had lessons. The two of them got on famously to the point that our daughter was completely devastated to leave the farm. She sobbed and sobbed as we said goodbye to Maggie. (This is after Axelle had announced to us that she wanted to stay with Maggie and be one of her “children” and “Papa and Mama could go back to London” and she would walk home later. “Is London far to walk to?”) And best of all, my husband and I think we actually made some progress with our riding! We definitely will be back! Thanks so much for offering a most memorable holiday!”

I hope you enjoyed reading this little handful of testimonials from our customers. If you require any information about the holidays you have read about or any of the packages on our website please contact us in the office on 01829 781 123, or email info@equestrian-escapes.com

Finally have a absolutley fantastic Christmas and New Year from all of us at Equestrain Escapes.

Riding in Southern Spain

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

As you are all aware the weather in the UK over the past month has gone from bad to worse to impossible. It seems that many parts of the UK have ground to a stand-still. Hundreds of schools have had to close, driving conditions have been hazardous to say the least, and rail and air passengers were delayed on many flights leaving badly affected areas. For the first time our riding centre in Cheshire had to cancel all rides on the 5th December as the melting snow and freezing rain had transformed the yard and paths into an ice rink. The bad news is The Met Office has issued further heavy snow warnings for Yorkshire and Humber, east Midlands, east and north-east England, London and south-east England.

As Lou and I were left in the -6 conditions here in the office in Cheshire, Sarah, our managing director headed off to what we all thought was a rainy Southern Spain. Little did we know (including her) that there was a whopping 33 degree difference in temperature and it was a blazing 27 degrees celcius! Hard to comprehend when only 2 1/2 hours earlier she had left an artic Liverpool John Lennon airport on a Ryan Air flight heading for Malaga.

Hardly laughing when we heard this the next day we were soon cheered up when Sarah told us she was in a bit of a ‘sticky’ situation as she had packed for rain – 2 pairs of wooly boots and several pairs of jeans and thick jumpers!

Thanks to the un-announced spectacular weather Sarah enjoyed 5 days of glorious sunshine on the coast of Marbella, riding along the sandy beaches of Southern Spain and sampling the wonderful gastronomy and wine that the Spanish are so famous for.

If you are interested in any of our Spanish riding breaks please contact Sarah, Lou or myself Lindsey in the Equestrian Escapes office on 01829 781 123.

Match this with trail rides in the mountains, dressage lessons or that beach riding you’ve always wanted to do and you may just have your dream holiday.

What Is A Horse? Find out in our Horse Article

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

I have been researching horse articles today and came across this poem, just what is a horse? I think this describes it perfectly!

What is a horse?
A horse has eyes as dainty as a mink.
The grace is interrupted merely by a blink.
A horse is beauty.

What is a horse?
A horse is a tree in a storm that never goes down.
A horse is a weathered rock that stays around.
A horse is ancient.

What is a horse?
A horse waltzes like breeze over rivers.
She curvets and leaps like rain shivers.
A horse is a marionette.

What is a horse?
A horse is determination, that never stops flowing.
A horse is fondness, that never stops growing.
A horse is poetic power.
